Course Description

The Tenth Annual Intermountain Brain Injury Conference


April 1, 2016 held at the Millennium Centre in Johnson City, TN.

Our Keynote this year is Rick Parente, Ph.D. He is a Professor of Psychology at Towson University in Baltimore Md. He received a Ph.D. in Psychology from University of New Mexico in 1975. He completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in Physiology in 1981. He has done individual and group cognitive skills training with traumatically brain injured persons since 1980. He is a professor of Psychology at Towson University, a position he has held for 40 years. He regularly teaches graduate level coursework in Multivariate Analysis, Advanced Experimental Design, Data Mining, and computer applications for data analysis. He also teaches graduate course work in Neuropsychological Assessment and Neurotraining. He is a licensed Psychologist with a clinical practice specializing in rehabilitation of cognitive functions after brain injury. He has authored three books and over 50 journal articles on Cognitive Rehabilitation


Dr. Louise Keegan is Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences Disorders at Appalachian State University, North Carolina. She is originally from Limerick Ireland, and graduated as a speech and language therapist from University College Cork. She completed her Ph.D. in applied language and speech sciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2012. Her research interests lie in the social use of language especially in populations with acquired language disorders, and her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the linguistic construction of identity in individuals with traumatic brain injury

Brian Luff, CEO of Quillen Rehabilitation Hospital brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience to his role. Prior to joining HealthSouth, Brian worked for Mountain States Health Alliance as the director of Quillen Rehabilitation Hospital. Brian is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in physical therapy, as well King College with a master's in business administration. During his career, he has served in a wide range of clinical and administrative roles in various settings including acute care, outpatient, and inpatient rehabilitation.

Erica Rawl joined Hinds' Feet Farm with a broad background in the human service field as a provisionally licensed clinical social worker (PLCSW). She has worked with adults and children across the spectrum of developmental disability in a wide variety of settings including: summer camps, day programs, residential care homes and schools. Erica has extensive experience in working with individuals and families, and has a true gift for helping others! Erica received her bachelors of arts in Social Work from Warren Wilson College and her master's degree in Social Work from the University of Louisville. Erica also earned a master's degree in special education from the University of Louisville and has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Education Department at Warren Wilson College.

Fredda Roberts is the Regional Service Coordinator for the upper nine counties of East Tennessee. Her office is based at the Crumley House Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center. With her certification as a Brain Injury Specialist, Mrs. Roberts assists brain injury survivors of all ages in her region.


We will also hear from survivors and their families. Catered breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee and drinks/snack service will be available all day. The Millennium Centre is located at 2001 Millennium Place, Johnson City, TN. Education Credits: .60 CEU's; 6.0 CNE's; 5.5 ASHA College of Nursing CNE credits will be available for $15.00. ASHA Continuing Education will be available. General CEU's (Continuing Education Units) are available at a $25.00 fee.
