October 14th
Khia's work is centered on cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion for
underserved and marginalized student populations at East Tennessee State
University’s College Counseling Center. Currently, they serve as the coordinator
of outreach for the counseling center and as an adjunct professor in the Clinical
Counseling program. Before joining the Counseling Center at ETSU, Khia spent 5
years in private practice, specializing in gender-affirming care for transgender
individuals of all ages. During this time, she initiated support groups to enhance
their care and foster a sense of community.
In addition to their focus on gender-affirming care, Khia specializes in Religious
Trauma Syndrome and Racial Traumatization. They earned their Master’s degree
in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from Walden University in 2018 and are
pursuing their PhD in Transformative Social Change at Saybrook University.
Khia is trained at Level 2 in Brainspotting, a mindfulness modality related to
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Additionally, she
completed her 200-hour Yoga Certification through Downtown Yoga's Black Yogi
scholarship in 2020.
On a personal note, Khia enjoys singing, crocheting, and reading. They have been
in a partnership for 14 years, and they love spending time with friends, family, and
their two beagles.
